There is zero tolerance for salmonella in the entire food production chain in Finland. Finland has got a Salmonella control program, approved by the Commission of the European Communities. The Finnish national Salmonella control program covers cattle, pigs, and poultry, as well as meat and eggs obtained from them. In addition to the official program, farm-level salmonella samples are tested for self-monitoring, eg in connection with animal trade.
